Dmesh algorithm1/3/2024 Underpinning this desire for democratization and scalability is the realization that your current data architecture (in many cases, a siloed data warehouse or a data lake with some limited real-time streaming capabilities) may not be meeting your needs.įortunately, teams seeking a new lease on data need look no further than a data mesh, an architecture paradigm that’s taking the industry by storm. Most of all, however, your entire data team wishes there were an easier way to manage the growing needs of your organization, from fielding the never-ending stream of ad hoc queries to wrangling disparate data sources through a central ETL pipeline. Or maybe your CDO spearheaded a cross-functional initiative to educate teams on data management best practices and your CTO invested in a data engineering group. Your boss was one of the first in the industry to see the potential in Snowflake and Looker. Your company, for one, views data as a driver of innovation. In the age of self-service business intelligence, nearly every company considers themselves a data-first company, but not every company is treating their data architecture with the level of democratization and scalability it deserves. But what is a data mesh and why should you build one? Inquiring minds want to know. Ask anyone in the data industry what’s hot these days and chances are “data mesh” will rise to the top of the list.

Pop up traffic cone1/3/2024 It's established to prevent passersby from inadvertently entering into the incident zone.Īny time that roadside personnel need to divide vehicular lanes to accommodate a different traffic flow, they'll use traffic cones to mark these special lanes. Let's review each category in greater detail.Ī work zone is any highway area where there are construction, maintenance or utility activities taking place.Īn incident zone is an area marked off by authorized personnel immediately after a traffic incident has occurred. The four main TTC Zone categories include: This term is used to define any roadside area where normal conditions are changed. Traffic cones are used to designate what's known as Temporary Traffic Control Zones, or TTC Zones. These cones are appropriate for roadways with posted speed limits of 45 miles per hour or greater. 36 Inch conesĬertain states, including Delaware and Florida, require traffic cones to be at least 36 inches tall. They are most commonly used as hazard markers, though they're also helpful as blockades. 28 Inch conesĪny traffic cone that is 28 inches high must include a heavy base that is at least 10 pounds. They are most commonly used for parking lots, athletic events, and landscaping purposes. You can use 18-inch traffic cones for roadways that have posted speed limits of under 45 miles per hour. These are reserved for athletic events or to design courses for pet-related training. You cannot legally use 12-inch traffic cones on public roads. These are reserved for driver's education courses and to designate indoor hazards. You cannot legally use six-inch traffic cones on public roads. Let's explore the most common cone sizes. There are different heights and size categories used for different scenarios. Where Are Different Traffic Cone Sizes Used? In addition, the Federal Highway Administration (FHA) requires that traffic cones meet certain specifications for: To be considered legal for road use, these cones must be constructed and molded from shock-absorbing plastic that's safer for cars than the materials used to build harder all-purpose cones. According to the Manual for Uniform Traffic Control Devices, this means that they are specially designed to serve as a temporary guide for motorists traveling on public roads. In short, these are protective safety tools that are designed as channeling devices. Let's begin with a simple question: What are traffic cones in the first place? Today, we're exploring the significance behind those neon cones, including what they mean, what they're used for and why they're some of the most critical pieces of safety gear around. Yet, there is more to this safety equipment than meets the eye. You've driven past them countless times, likely not thinking too much about their placement or importance. There's no doubt you've seen them on the roadside: those bright traffic cones that direct you where to go during highway construction.
What would you say to somebody like me to maybe pitch them on the series and this game in particular? GameWatcher: Speaking personally, I’m a fan of adventure games, but I haven’t played the Deponia series up until now. He was already working in the industry, and that brought us together because he recognized that I had to be in the industry. When I finished the first version of the game it was at the end of my studies, and then I met Carsten Fichtelmann, who’s now the CEO of Daedelic. That was, in a way, the starting point of the company as well. That was when I was still studying, and so I did my first game which was Edna & Harvey: The Breakout. That was what brought me into the industry in the first place, because after they stopped making those games I really missed them, and I found no other developer who made games in such a fashion. I think there wasn’t a single game I didn’t enjoy from them. Of course in particular the Monkey Island series, but also Maniac Mansion. Jan “Poki” Muller-Michaelis: Yeah, I think I’ve never made a big secret of the fact that I’m a big fan of the LucasArts era. What would you say the strongest particular influences are? GameWatcher: Deponia is obviously very strongly influenced by classic point-and-click adventure games. But it’s good, the option to play the game a couple of times, it will add to the experience if you try to unravel that layer of the story as well, but you don’t need to of course. But I think it’s very much fun, even if you can’t follow all of the timelines anymore, because of course Rufus surely can’t. It gets really weird at the end of the game. You may get confused because we try to do every trick in the book with time travel and try to combine everything together. But I think it’s mainly in the introductory chapter and the last third of the game where it really escalates. Is that something that factors into the puzzles? GameWatcher: Time travel has a grand tradition in video games in general and adventure games in particular. We know that he can make things very chaotic without a time machine already and time machines can bring chaos themselves, so it’s a really, really bad mixture. He finds a guy who measures these anomalies around his hometown called McChronicle, and that’s when things start to get really, really weird. He learns that maybe this dream was not just a dream, but had something to do with strange time anomalies. Then he recognizes that he can remember situations from his “dream,” and this way he can change things. But soon enough he awakes as a young Rufus again, even before the events of Deponia 1, 2, and 3, and he thinks all of that was just a nightmare, and just goes on with his normal life. Elysium has fallen and there are monsters running around, so he sees no other option but to press the red button that will blow up the whole planet. The premise is that after Rufus has fallen in Goodbye Deponia (which is of course a big spoiler) he has grown old somehow, rummaging the landscape that’s now trapped in kind of a nuclear winter. Jan “Poki” Muller-Michaelis: It’s a little bit complicated. Get enthralled by the bizarre humor and the uniquely designed world and enjoy the largest and longest Deponia adventure of all time.GameWatcher: Run down the basic outline for me. Even without knowing the previous installment, the hilarity of Deponia Doomsday will have you cracking smiles and burst with laughter. Just imagine if this amazing technology would fall into the wrong hands!ĭive right into this frantic sequel of the Deponia cult-trilogy and join the chaotic anti-hero Rufus on his most peculiar adventure. Deponia and his well-shaved face had to survive!īut was this really just a dream? With the help of McChronicle, a quirky temporal scientist, who discovered strange time-anomalies, Rufus discovers that some time travelers from the future carelessly parked their time machine in his neighborhood. Of course he realized that these gruesome events -especially the mustache part- had to be prevented from ever happening. As the last surviving Deponian, he fought savage fewlocks, but in the end, there was only one way out: He had to blow up Deponia! And. But at what price? Elysium, the floating city crash-landed on the planet. One fateful night, Rufus awakes from a haunting nightmare: he sacrificed himself to save Deponia. I still have yet to try any of them, as usually these type of adventure games aren't my cup, but I have been tempted. The previous games looked great, and they are pretty popular. Does stress make you nauseous1/3/2024 The second scenario where depression and anxiety can actually contribute and lead to physical illness or another illness, is when they trigger another disorder. Getting Sick: When Depression or Anxiety Trigger another Disorder To safeguard your health and keep depression and anxiety from making you sick, see the suggestions in the last part of this article. So your chronic depression or anxiety are a definite risk to your health. And chronic anxiety increases the risk of physical illnesses and other mental health conditions, including depression. Chronic anxiety also heightened incidence of heart, gastrointestinal, hypertensive, and respiratory diseases.Ĭhronic depression also co-occurs more frequently with other psychiatric disorders than episodic depression. For example a Canadian study showed those with chronic anxiety developed stroke, aneurysm, and other cerebrovascular disease at a higher rate than the general population. Studies show the negative effects on your physical health increase when depression and anxiety become chronic. So If My Depression or Anxiety is Chronic, Does It Mean I’m Even More Likely To Get Sick? Others gain weight, perhaps from craving carbohydrates that fuel serotonin production. Some people lose their appetite when depressed. Weight fluctuations are so common in depression and anxiety that it is one of the factors for diagnosis. Similarly, depression ups the probability of having headache. Anxiety, particularly, seems to increase likelihood of migraine and headache. Anxiety, depression, and migraine can be interrelated. Increasingly, research shows that anxiety and heart disease and high blood pressure are linked, too. Research well established the connection between depression and heart disease. Heart Disease and High Blood Pressure.Research links inflammation to disease development, including heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. Stress linked to depression and anxiety and immunity system impairment contribute to chronic inflammation. This leaves your body less able to fight off illness. Sleep deprivation interrupts production of a variety of substances essential for immune system effectiveness. The reason 7-9 hours of sleep nightly is important is for the restorative functions that happen during sleep. These include ongoing insomnia, headaches, increased stress, and impaired immunity. Whether you struggle with falling asleep or staying asleep, disrupted sleep triggers a host of other problems. Disrupted sleep commonly goes with depression and anxiety. Your put your physical health at risk by not treating your depression or anxiety. The risks untreated depression and anxiety pose make this particularly unfortunate. However, stigma, lack of knowledge, lack of resources, etc., keep many sufferers of these disorders away from treatment. And if your treatment combines all these modalities, you increase your chances of treatment success. Usual treatment involves medication, behavior changes, and psychotherapy. You can heal your depression and anxiety. Getting Sick When You Don’t Treat Depression or Anxiety Second, if depression or anxiety trigger another disorder. First, if depression or anxiety is not treated and even becomes chronic. This dynamic typically happens in two ways. More precisely, they can contribute and lead to actual physical illness or another mental illness. However, sometimes depression and anxiety can actually make you sick. This whole body experience can easily be misinterpreted as a physical illness, rather than a mental one. In other words, you experience these disorders physically, as well as emotionally. Common symptoms are tightness in the chest, agitation, trembling, chest pain, nausea or abdominal distress, dizziness, tingling or cold in the extremities, panic, heart palpitations, etc. Similarly, anxiety can show up in the body in lots of ways. But it’s pretty common to feel lethargic, fatigued, agitated, tearful, in pain, no appetite or increased appetite, and headaches, in addition to feeling down. No two experiences of depression are the same. But can depression and anxiety actually make you sick? One aspect of depression and anxiety that makes these disorders so frustrating is how they affect the whole body. Convert image to black and white1/3/2024 The Black channel is interesting: it resembles a negative. Just for fun I tried decomposing into CMYK. I downloaded it from the GIMP Plug-in Registry and compiled it myself. I don’t know whether it comes bundled with newer versions. Note: the LAB decompose option was not distributed with the version of GIMP I got (ver 1.2.3). Not often useful by itself, but it can be combined with other layers for interesting results (see Tips at end of article). You can very often see an expanded tonal range and discover hidden detail in the shadows by examining this component. The Lightness component is a very interesting one because it contains all of the luninance information (whereas in RGB and HSV some of that information is spread into other components). Right-click on the original image and select Image/Mode/Decompose. Right-click on the original image and select Image -> Mode -> Decompose. Via Decompose HSV ¶Īnother possibility is to decompose to Hue/Saturation/Value components and consider the Value image (the other two are not usually useful for this purpose). If nothing else, taking a look at the RGB decomposition is important to give you an idea of where the important information is in your image, and where the noise is. Very often the green channel contains an excellent B&W version of the image. Often the blue channel has the most noise, but not in this case. You can see that the red channel contains most of the luminance information as well as a lot of noise, the green channel has the least noise, and the blue channel has shadows and noise. Here you can see the three channels: red (top), green (middle) and blue (bottom). Each one can be represented as an independent grayscale image. Via Decompose RGB ¶Ī third method is to consider the red/green/blue channels of the image. The reason is that we are getting more blue and red channel noise, whereas in the grayscale mode change operation the algorithm is giving us a remix of 60% of the clean, detailed green channel. You can see a lot more noise in the desaturated zoomed view (examine the blurred area below the spikes). Also, compare the 100% zoom views at right and in the previous grayscale example. The result is visually different note the increased contrast in the scales. Unlike the grayscale mode change above, the channels are not remixed in different percentages, so we should expect different results. Duplicate the original image ( Ctrl+D) and right-click on the copy. Here is what I get if I use desaturate instead. My experiments with the Channel Mixer (more on this below) support this. This formula does a pretty nice job in the general case, but some images do not work as well with it, particularly if the green channel component is not strong. Supposedly this mix accounts for the eye’s sensitivity to different colors. I don’t know how this conversion works in GIMP, but I have read that Photoshop uses a standard mix of the RGB channels for their grayscale conversion: RED=30%, GREEN=59% and BLUE=11%. Here is what I get if I use the standard mode change to grayscale from RGB.ĭuplicate the original image ( Ctrl+D) and right-click on the copy. I thought it might look nice as a black and white image. Here is an example image, loaded into GIMP. decomposing to LAB and using the Lightness (L) channel.decomposing to HSV and using the Value (V) channel.decomposing to RGB and using any one of the channels.the “standard” grayscale conversion operation. In this tutorial I’ll show you some different ways to convert color RGB images to B&W: Jeschke and may not be used without permission of the author. The Rourans, led by Böri Khan, later invade the Silk Road and fight against various guards protecting the garrison, causing mayhem across the marketplace while Xianniang takes on more guards during the ambush. The next day, Böri Khan welcomes the twelve leaders of the Rouran tribes planning to kill the Emperor while relying on Xianniang whom the other Rourans think she cannot be trusted which Böri Khan tells the soldiers that Xianniang serves the Rourans just as Böri Khan plans to take revenge against the Emperor after surrendering to their last battle as well as avenging his father's death after the Emperor killed him which the Rourans ready themselves for revenge. Meanwhile, the Emperor signs a decree to the Chancellor that the Rourans have invaded China, planning to send every man of a family member to contribute to the Imperial Army to fight against the Rourans to defend the kingdom and protect the Emperor. The Rourans are first seen riding on their horses following their leader Böri Khan planning to attack the northern garrison where several attack the marketplace as they attacks the merchants in battle. They are now instead the ones who directly cause the avalanche through Mulan tricking them into firing a catapult in the direction of the mountain that triggers it. In the Niki Caro remake of Mulan the Huns are replaced by the Rouran Army. It is unknown what happened to them after they failed to capture the latter, though it is likely that if they survived, they were arrested, put in the dungeon for life, or executed. However, Shan Yu and five of his Elite Hun Soldiers managed to survive, breaking out of the snow and heading to China to capture the Emperor. Almost all the Huns and all their horses were wiped out in an avalanche while they were pursuing Mulan, Shang, and his elite soldiers, including Yao, Ling, and Chien Po. Several Hun archers shot fire arrows at Li Shang's troops from a mountain top after Mushu accidently set off a cannon giving away the troops position (or they had possibly already spotted them before the cannon went off) the archers are killed by Shang's troops firing the cannons they managed to save either directly from the cannon explosions or they were knocked off the mountain and fell to their deaths. In their invasion of China, the Hun Army wiped out the entire Imperial Army under General Li in (another) off-screen battle. The Huns are first seen with Shan Yu in the burning down of a village (though only the aftermath appears on-screen). There are also a group of Huns known as the Elite Hun Soldiers. Little is known about their personalities with the exception of Shan Yu's Elite, but the Huns all share a thirst for power and murderous intent, as well as fierce loyalty to Shan Yu.
